Westfield-Based Photographer Makes Moms Cry (In a Good Way)

August 21, 2014 at 12:37 PM

WESTFIELD, NJ — For Carolyn Ann Ryan, photographing families isn’t just a job—it’s a passion. The Fanwood resident, who started in her home and opened her Downtown Westfield studio earlier this year, prides herself in capturing perfect moments that both parents and their kids will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Ryan especially loves outdoor photography. She has some of her favorite spots staked out throughout the area, including Historic Richmondtown on Staten Island, where she has a permit to photograph.

“I go into a session aiming to get the parents focused on just having fun with their kids,” she said. The results are natural, happy-looking families. Their personalities shine because they’re not posing, they’re playing.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Carolyn since my older son was three months old. He is now four, and I also have a two-year old. The moments she has captured of my family are truly one of a kind,” said Danielle Berman.

“The holiday cards she has designed are priceless,” Berman said. “Every year my family and friends cannot wait to receive our card. I receive countless amounts of compliments about her work. She is so warm and inviting to work with and makes the children smile from ear to ear, all while capturing these monumental moments in our family.”

Other parents have told Ryan that seeing their photos for the first time brings them tears of joy.

“When a mom writes to me that a slideshow of her photographs brought her to tears, then I know I did my job,” said Ryan.

Beyond the photographs themselves, Ryan focuses on customer service. At an in-person ordering appointment, she uses a program on her iPad to project an image of the client’s wall and show them how canvas or prints would look on the walls in their home.

“I do everything I can to make the experience as full-service as possible,” said Ryan.

Now’s the time to start thinking about holiday portraits, Ryan said, as fall sessions book up fast. Mention this article when you book your session by Sept. 15 to get a complimentary pack of 5x7 bi-fold press printed holiday cards with your holiday card order.
