WESTFIELD, NJ -- The Westfield boys’ varsity soccer team won their season opener, 3-0, over Old Bridge on Tuesday.
Senior Byron Lessner scored the first goal of the season for Westfield in the first half to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Westfield never looked back, scoring two more goals in the second half.
Junior Michael Prosuk scored the first goal of the second half, followed by a breakaway goal from senior Alik Morgan.  Prosuk and seniors Chris Dattilo and Sean Tracey collected all of the game’s three assists.

“To start our season with a shutout win, there is nothing better,” senior captain Zachary Sheil said.
The victory was head coach Eric Shaw's first as a Blue Devil.
“It was great getting our first win for our coach,” Prosuk said.
Westfield played stout defense, not allowing Old Bridge any open shots on goal. Blue Devil goalkeeper Koryn Kraemer faced only three shots, compared to Westfield’s 14 shots on goal.
“If we play our game, we can beat any team in the state,” Sheil said.
Westfield looks to continue its success at Elizabeth High School on Thursday.
