WESTFIELD, NJ — C.J. Reycraft, Jr., who has served as chef de cuisine at Chez Catherine in Westfield for just over six years, will soon open his own classic French restaurant in the space formerly occupied by Isabella’s.
The brasserie, called Amuse (from the French phrase amuse bouche), is set to open in early 2014 at 39 Elm St. Amuse will be BYO.
The French Culinary Institute graduate has garnered exceptional marks from critics, including Star-Ledger food columnist Cody Kendall, “for well-focused dishes that consistently hit high marks for visuals that match the taste.”
Julianne Hodges, Reycraft’s fiancé and herself an experienced chef and FCI graduate, will work in the kitchen, as well.
“The opening of Amuse is the culmination of a dream come true,” said Reycraft. “I can’t wait to greet all of my customers and friends at my new restaurant. I want Amuse to become their new home away from home.”
