WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Green Team, the Westfield High School Green Team and the Tamaques Learning Team have teamed up this year to collect clean, undamaged used backpacks and lunch bags for kids in need, according to Councilman David Contract.

There will be large collection boxes by the front doors of all three schools at the front entrances of Westfield High School, Roosevelt Intermediate School and Tamaques Elementary School on the first day of school, Sept. 5, he said. The bags and packs will be dropped off at Bernice’s Place, an after-school program run for homeless and at-risk children in Elizabeth.
