WESTFIELD, NJ - The Westfield varsity girls basketball team remained undefeated with a 59-36 victory over Arthur L. Johnson Thursday at Westfield High School.
Leading scorer Lillian Scott, with a 22-point performance, acknowledged the work of the undefeated Blue Devils’ entire team. Westfield is now 13-0.
“I think we all put forward our best efforts on the court,” said Scott. “We always try to play for our teammates, and as a result no one is selfish, which helps.”
Westfield started off strong with a 3-pointer by Scott, followed by shots by Jackie Knapp and Jamie Miller, bringing the score at the end of the first quarter to 19-8.
The second quarter ended with a score of 32-13 after Olivia Luzzi made the first basket of the quarter. Team captain Carly Friedman finished out the second with a layup.
“Our team did really well with put-back shots,” Knapp said. “Carly did a great job with that today.”
In the final quarter of the game, the Blue Devils fought hard, finished out the game strong thanks to Lizzie Brucia and Shannon Devit.
The Blue Devils will play Union Catholic Friday at 7 p.m. Johnson will play at New Providence on Friday at 7 p.m.
