Westfield High School’s Science Olympiad teams returned from the regional competition at New Jersey Institute of Technology with medals for top six finishes in six events. A total of 37 WHS students participated in two teams and were accompanied by Science teachers Louis Casagrande and Dana Phillips.
Westfield’s performance garnered an 8th place finish in the competition out of 19 teams competing, which places the team, now combined into one, in the State competition to take place on Tuesday, March 11, at Middlesex Community College.
Events at the January 16th competition included using machines or equipment that the students designed and built ahead of time to complete certain tasks (such as delivering a raw egg a certain distance without breaking), practical design and performance on laboratory techniques, or analyses of scientific data from astronomy or geology.
