Report of the theft of a piece of equipment valued at approximately $300.00 from an educational institution on Cardinal Drive. Between 12/20/13 and 01/02/14, actor(s) unknown took the item, a school crossing gate, from a bus parked in the lot of the institution.

An individual reports that his iPhone 5s was taken from an unlocked locker at the Westfield YMCA between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on 01/02/14. Total value of the phone, including the case is $550.00.
January 3, 2014 5:08 p.m.
Lester Butler, 36, of Plainfield was arrested on an outstanding no bail NCIC (National Crime Information Center) warrant pursuant to a motor vehicle stop at W. South Avenue and Donner Street. Butler was transported to Headquarters, processed and transferred over to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

Gregory Cromwell, 25, of Newark was arrested at Police Headquarters for an outstanding $439.00 Westfield traffic warrant. Bail was posted and a future court date is to be determined.
January 4, 2014 7:47 p.m.
A resident of the 1100 block of Central Avenue reported a burglary to their residence during the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. hours. Unknown actor(s) gained entry to the residence by puncturing a hole through the wood panel of the interior rear side door. Proceeds of the burglary were jewelry.

Joseph Kabutu, 38, of Fords was arrested at Edison Police Department on the following warrants: 1) Westfield Municipal Court $2,060.00, 2) East Brunswick Municipal Court $494.00, 3) Newark Municipal Court $350.00, 4) Wall Township Municipal Court $300.00. Kabutu was transported to Westfield Police Department, processed and placed into cell #1 in lieu of bail.

A resident of the 800 block of Willow Grove Road reported a theft of two watches from his residence. Resident reported that this theft occurred between November 2013 and January 5, 2014. Unknown value of the stolen property.

Jesus Oropeza, 28, of Elizabeth was arrested at Police Headquarters for an outstanding traffic warrant totaling $114.00 out of this jurisdiction. Bail was posted and a waiver was signed admitting guilt.
