WESTFIELD, NJ — Among the series of child sex abuse lawsuits filed this week against the Catholic church following a change in state law was one that claims the institution protected a priest at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic after he abused multiple boys in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Board of Education this week approved an elective class at the high school that is geared to help students understand the barriers encountered by ethnic minorities. The decision came after much discussion and some public hand-wringing over the curriculum.

For the second time in two weeks, Mountainside police found themselves chasing after a vehicle stolen out of Westfield. In both cases, police said, the stolen cars were left unlocked with a key fob inside. Read these stories and more, below.
