Westfield School District Reminds Parents to Register Kids for 1st Grade

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield School District is reminding Westfield parents with children reaching the age of six on or before Oct. 1, 2014, to register their children now for first grade in September. This applies only to students who have not yet been registered in the Westfield Public Schools for the 2014-2015 school year and it does not apply to current Lincoln School kindergarten students.

“Formal registration took place in January, but with new families moving into town, we are encouraging these parents to register their children,” said Margaret Dolan, Superintendent of Schools.  “This will permit better planning for appropriate classroom assignments and learning environments for our incoming children.”

First grade enrollment is historically higher than kindergarten, according to Dolan, and accurate registration numbers assist greatly in projecting staffing and space requirements. Parents uncertain of where to register their children for any grade should call Jean Rogers in the Office of the Superintendent at 908-789-4420.
