Westfield Teachers to Take on Harlem Wizards in Fundraising Basketball Show

March 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM

WESTFIELD, NJ — On May 29, The Hands of Life Martial Arts will present The Harlem Wizards vs. Tamaques Elementary School and Edison Intermediate School staff at Westfield High School. Tamaques Principal Mike Cullen and Edison Principal Matthew Bolton and Vice Principal David Duelks will be among those battling the world-renowned show basketball team that evening at 7 p.m.

Funds raised will go toward The Paul Jackson Fund, a Westfield-based charity that serves as a resource of last resort for individuals and families in the tri-state area facing a financial crisis due to a debilitating long-term illness or disability. Additionally, the PTO is establishing a new Tamaques/EdisonCares Fund, which will be used solely to provide monetary help to local families in need on an ongoing basis. A portion of the funds will also go toward enhancing Tamaques facilities.

Sponsors include Hands of Life Martial Arts (platinum level) and Planet Honda (gold level).

At a Wizards game, audiences witness amazing basketball talent combined with high-energy comedy. The athleticism, tricks, fancy teamwork and ball-handling wizardry and wild dunks wow hoops fans of all ages. Audience participation plays a key role—you, your child or your friends may find themselves part of the show.

"The Tamaques PTO is so excited to bring the Harlem Wizards to Westfield. It will be a night of entertainment for both the young and young at heart,” said Binaifer Vesuna, Tamaques PTO event chair. “It is an interactive evening between players, our school faculties and families, all while raising dollars for needy families in our community as well as enhancing school facilities.”

Tickets will be available for purchase through several channels: Through MyFoodDays.com on Wednesday, Apr. 2; at the Tamaques Variety Show Apr. 4 and 5; through the Harlem Wizards website, http://www.harlemwizards.com; and at Tamaques and Edison schools on Monday, Apr. 21.
