WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School and Plainfield High School did not get the most votes in the final round of USA TODAY’S Best High School Football Rivalry Contest. That honor went to two North Carolina teams, who got a whopping 823,907 votes from their fans.
Still, as finalists, the Blue Devils and Cardinals will receive a cash prize. Westfield Athletic Director Sandra Mamary was unsure of how much the two teams had won when she spoke to The Alternative Press shortly after the results were announced at noon on Dec. 18.
“It was great for the community to be a part of this exciting contest,” said Mamary. “People from all over the United States with ties to Westfield were voting for the rivalry. The Plainfield community was very involved and had great participation. It was fun to hear people talking about the contest and getting involved in the process. This contest is just a small sampling of how our community has a common goal of promoting the Town of Westfield and supporting its football program.”
