WESTFIELD, NJ — With Italian ice and ice cream in an abundance of flavors, newly opened Uncle Louie G at 57 Elm St. in Downtown Westfield offers summer treats for everyone. Look for ices in flavors like lemon, lime, cherry, rainbow cookie and chocolate ($3 small; $4 large). Some flavors available in sugar-free, as well.
Ice cream flavors include apple pie a la mode, rocky road rage, dulce de leche, chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate peanut butter, mint condition chocolate chip, vanilla chip dip and black raspberry. For a real treat, try a brownie sundae ($7).
Uncle Louie G is a franchise owned by Eric Rivera, who commutes each day from Staten Island.
“For the last several years, I’ve come to Westfield with my wife and family,” said Rivera. “We toured the town, saw a lot of ice cream places, but none that offered ices. When I saw my shop and discovered it was available, I knew it would be the perfect place for me to sell ices and ice cream.”
After a quick renovation that included painting the walls and ordering new showcases and furniture, Rivera ordered his first product.
Today visitors arrive, step up to the counter, place their order, then take a seat on one of the stainless steel chairs covered with bright red or bright blue seats to enjoy their sweet, cool treats.
Uncle Louie G is available for kids’ parties.
Mark your calendars: Though the shop is open now, Saturday, June 22, will be their official grand opening day.
Hours are Monday through Wednesday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 1 p.m to 10 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
