Westfield’s New Get in Shape for Women Offers Training That’s Personal

June 11, 2013 at 3:43 PM

WESTFIELD, NJ — Since opening about three months ago, Westfield’s Get in Shape for Women has brought affordable personal training to Downtown.

“I would say we’re very different from most places out there,” said Rob Maistickle, owner. For one thing, class size never exceeds four women—what Maistickle calls “group personal training.” It allows everyone to get one-on-one attention at an affordable price.

“Compared to most gyms, we’re almost one-third the price, as far as personal training goes,” said Maistickle.

Within the groups, which meet at regular times for a variety of weight training and cardio workouts, “It’s social. It’s welcoming. You’re going to become friends with these women. For some people, it’s a support group,” said Maistickle. Plus, he added, when they work out together, “the energy level is through the roof.”

Plenty more is included with membership, as well. Upon joining, women get a physical assessment as well as a nutritional one.  A personal trainer helps each person create an attainable goal, such as losing weight, increasing strength, getting more energy or feeling healthier.

“The number one goal for most people is health,” he said.

Once a goal is defined, trainers here make it their mission to ensure that goal is reached. When someone hits a bump in the road, Maistickle will often sit down with that woman to figure out what the issue is. Is it stress eating? He’ll help them figure out what’s causing the stress. Are they having trouble menu planning? He’ll help them figure out what to eat that week, including portion sizes.

“I get to know these ladies personally. I get to know what makes them tick, and so do my trainers,” said Maistickle.

And if you don’t show up for your regularly scheduled class? He’s going to call you.

“A gym wants you to just pay $30 and never show up. We want you to hit your goal,” said Maistickle. “Accountability is huge here.”

Get in Shape for Women is located at 327 South Avenue. For more information, call (908) 228-2084 or visit www.Getinshapeforwomen.com.
