Wharton Music Center Sunday Guitar Series Concludes with Legendary Guitarist Gene Bertoncini

May 27, 2014 at 11:20 PM

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Wharton Music Center concludes its Sunday Guitar Series on June 1 at 3:00 p.m. at 60 Locust Avenue in Berkeley Heights with legendary jazz great Gene Bertoncini. Known as the “Segovia of jazz,” Bertoncini promises to spellbind and delight the audience. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets and more information, call Wharton Music Center at 908-790-0700.

For decades Bertoncini has established himself as a master guitarist by earning critical acclaim for his artistry on both the acoustic and electric guitars. A superb stylist, Bertoncini seamlessly shifts between jazz, classical, pop, and bossa nova styles with an elegance and ease rarely seen in the jazz guitar world.

Mike Joyce of the Jazz Times describes Bertoncini's guitar playing as "unique and versatile." Regarded as an expert in transforming a simple tune into a captivating, multidimensional work of art, Bertoncini’s adroit command of harmony and structure is apparent as a solo performer and in collaboration with others. He has appeared with the likes of Buddy Rich, Wayne Shorter, Tony Bennett, Benny Goodman, Lena Horne, and Nancy Wilson and performed regularly on the Merv Griffin and Johnny Carson shows. One of the most prolific and popular studio musicians in New York City, Bertoncini is also a dedicated music educator. He has served on the faculties of the Eastman School of Music, New England Conservatory, New York University and the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta, Canada. Gene Bertoncini is on the faculty of William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

A number of employers dangle a lump sum offer to employees in part to remove future liabilities from their balance sheets. It’s tempting for ...
