RAHWAY, NJ - The holiday season is a time of giving back, and that is just what Who Am I: A Christmas Lullaby, that will be performed at the Union County Performing Arts Center Loft, strives to do. With two performances on December 17 at 1 PM and 3:30 PM, this musical is presented by Just Be You Performing Arts (JBY), a New Jersey based organization that gives the enjoyment of the performing arts to children ages 5-18 by mentoring them in the craft.

JBY teaches children that learning about themselves is the first step in improving their art and honing their skills. Not only are many of the performers for Who Am I talented JBY child actors, with this performance celebrating the organization’s three-year anniversary, but a portion of the proceeds for this show go to New Jersey foster care homes (including one in Rahway).

“One of my inspirations for writing the script for this musical is the tremendous amount of children in need of placement with good foster parents. Based upon my research, there are hundreds of children in the state of New Jersey in need of a foster care home. This musical sheds light on this bleak reality. Hopefully, it will encourage someone to consider becoming a foster parent.” Mahogany Reynolds-Clarke: Director, Producer, Writer, and Executive Director of Just Be You Performing Arts.

Who Am I: A Christmas Lullaby is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tear-jerking original musical about a group of foster home children during the Christmas season. Their foster parent is a lovely woman who attempts to encourage them at every turn, with some children believing in the hope of the season and others still feeling down on their luck. During a time of the year when other children are looking forward to being with family and receiving toys, can this group of children still find what Christmas means to them? Many of the songs in this musical are so poignant because they began as lullabies writer Mahogany Reynolds-Clarke created for her son when he was born.

Darren Stokes, a talented opera singer who has performed at the Chicago Opera Theater, the New York City Opera, Carnegie Hall, the Washington National Opera and the San Francisco Opera, performs a special speech and vocal performance at the musical as well as a special guest.

Tickets for Who Am I: A Christmas Lullaby are $25 and can be purchased online at ucpac.org, over the phone by calling (732) 499-8226, or by stopping by the box office in person during business hours (Tues-Sat 11 AM-5 PM, Thurs 11 AM-8 PM). A $20 student/senior price is available by phone or in person only.

The Union County Performing Arts Center Loft and box office are located in downtown Rahway at 1601 Irving Street and are easily accessible to major roads and public transportation. Every attendant at the show will receive a free goody bag of beauty products donated by sponsor JAFRA Cosmetics’ New Jersey District Manager, Vicel Guzman.

Another valued sponsor is Little Skye Children’s Boutique, the owners of which allowed a smaller production of this musical to be put on in their store earlier this month. Sponsor and Minister Shakkiya Green, Founder and Executive Director of Beauty in the Spirit, Inc., is aiding Just Be You by facilitating the process of the charitable donation by identifying foster care homes in Union County.
