WARREN, NJ -The Watchung Hills Regional High School Board of Education announced that senior graduation for the Class of 2014 will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23. The board explained the reasoning for the early start as to allow the outdoor ceremony to be delayed throughout the day if necessary due to inclement weather. After speaking with all stakeholder groups," everyone wants graduation on the football field if at all possible".
The board accepted the resignation of Sean Mealey, who has coached the Watchung Hills High School girls soccer team for the past two seasons. Dan Root, who has been Mealey's assistant the past two years, will take over head coaching duties for the rest of the season. Root was head coach in 2011.
Mealey is also the head varsity golf coach at Watchung Hills, and has led Warriors to two consecutive NJSIAA state Group IV championships. He has confirmed he will be reapplying for the position in the spring as all coaches must each year. Parents and members of the golf team spoke during public commentary urging the board not to accept Mealey's resignation, to no avail.
