South Plainfield, NJ – Last night South Plainfield was treated to severe thunderstorms, intense lightning and torrential rain. Many areas in the south-side of South Plainfield reported minor power outages, and flash flooding occurred all around South Plainfield. Tonight residents can expect much of the same as the remnants of Hurricane Arthur are expected to overspread the area this afternoon and this evening.
South Plainfield remains under a flash flood watch through Friday morning. The track of Arthur is still relatively uncertain, although most forecast models have the storm heading out to sea. The storm is expected to pass to the east of New Jersey as a category 1 hurricane.
Despite missing New Jersey, the effects of Arthur in the form of heavy rain and thunderstorms are still forecasted to occur this evening. Residents should be prepared to stay indoors and avoid traveling in flood prone areas.
