SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ- At last night's Borough Council meeting, Mayor Matthew Anesh presented resident William J. Walsh with a proclamation for his work at the South Plainfield Community Pool. Walsh, last fall, took on refurbishing the pool's boys and girls locker rooms. This project helped Walsh fulfill is requirements in obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout on March 18, 2013. Walsh is a member of South Plainfield Troop 309 of the Boy Scouts of America.
Walsh and Troop 309 helped refurbish and paint the Community Pool last September. Much of the work became somewhat overshadowed by Super Storm Sandy. Walsh and Troop 309 put in over 176 man-hours at the pool. They striped a significant portion of the locker areas and painted over 3,200 square feet of surface.
Walsh’s parents, Tom and Janie, were both on hand for the ceremony. Tom Walsh said, “I am proud of how William managed both the project as well as the volunteers.”
Before his project at the Community Pool, William J. Walsh had volunteered at Borough Hall. Borough Administrator Glenn Cullen remarked, “William has volunteered in the Senior Center, Tax Office, Finance and the Building Department for two straight years. He and Troop 309 could not have done a better job at the Community Pool. Thank You.”
Tonight’s festivities were not the final show for William J. Walsh. On Saturday September 14, 2013 Walsh will have his official Eagle Scout Ceremony. They Mayor and Council Plan on being on hand for the event.
