PATERSON, NJ - Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly on Thursday joined the growing chorus of Demcrats backing state Senator Barbara Buono for governor.
Earlier this week, two congressmen, Bill Pascrell Jr. and Frank Pallone, endorsed Buono, along with Passaic County Democratic Chairman John Currie and his counterparts in Bergen and Hudson counties.
So far, Buono of Middlesex County is the only Democrat formally seeking the party's nomination to run against powerful Republican incumbent Chris Cristie.
"She is the type of leader New Jersey needs,'' Wimberly said of Buono. "She will fight for the middle class and working poor in New Jersey who have been buried by Christie's failed economic policies. She has served many years in public office, and every step of the way, it was about the people, who elected her to office.''
"She has been a Councilwoman, Assemblywoman and currently a State Senator and every election she has overwhelmingly won," added Wimberly, who represents the 35th legislative district, which includes all of Paterson. "This shows her commitment to the everyday NJ residents, teachers, small business owners, nurses, fire fighters, construction workers, plumbers, electricians, truckers, law enforcement, public workers and the indigent ... those who don't have a voice."
