WEST ORANGE, NJ - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Essex County, beginning on January 2 at 6:00 am and ending on January 3 at 1:00 pm. Merging storms from the coast and midwest can create the potential for heavy snow, which is expected to begin by Thursday afternoon and bring it with it record low temperatures. Temperatures will drop into the low teens with a wind chill of 5 to 10 below.
Accumulations of 5-9 inches are possible with 10-20 mph winds and 30 mph gusts causing blizzard-like conditions.
The Thursday morning commute is not expected to be affected, nor the return of students to public schools. However, the evening commute may be treacherous and commuters are encouraged to remain apprised of weather conditions.
Residents should be prepared for record low temperatures and should remain indoors if possible.
