On January 18, 2014 at approximately 12:20 pm, Ptl Chad Rybka arrested 68-year-old Reesa Woolf of Boonton, NJ. Rybka, along with Patrolman Paul Papamarkos, responded to the Whole Foods Supermarket on report that the Loss Prevention Unit had an alleged shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, Rybka took custody of Woolf, who allegedly concealed over $800 worth of merchandise in her bag. The merchandise consisted of various food items and health care products. Woolf was charged with shoplifting and was released on her own recognizance. A court appearance is pending.
On January 8, 2014, a Madison Borough employee reported damage to the restroom facility at the Madison Recreation Center. According to the employee, an unknown individual forcibly entered the door to the men’s restroom causing significant damage. On January 11, 2014 at approximately 11:30 am, Ptl Vincent Dellavalle arrested 57 year old Ronald Longson of Toms River, NJ. Dellavalle stopped the vehicle in which Longson was the front seat passenger for an alleged equipment violation. During the investigation, Dellavalle determined that there were two active warrants for Longson’s arrest from Union Municipal Court totaling $665. Longson was unable to post bail and was transferred over to the Union Police Department. The driver of the vehicle, Arthur Muglia Jr, was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to wear a seatbelt. He was released from the scene without incident.
On January 12, 2014 at approximately 1:00am, Sgt Sean Plumstead arrested 22 year old Jason Pemstein of Madison, NJ. While on patrol, Plumstead observed Pemstein standing by the Lucy D Field, a public park which was closed at the time. As Plumstead drove his vehicle past Pemstein, he detected an odor of burnt marijuana. Plumstead then made contact with Pemstein to inquire about the odor. During the investigation, it was determined that Pemstein was allegedly smoking marijuana and was allegedly in possession of a marijuana cigarette. Pemstein was arrested for the violation and was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
On January 13, 2013 at approximately 4:30 am, Ptl Luis Goncalves arrested 24 year old Andrew Purtell of Florham Park, NJ. Goncalves, along with Sgt Craig Perrelli, responded to the area of Alma Avenue in Madison on report of a suspicious, occupied vehicle. Upon arrival, the officers encountered Purtell, who was allegedly asleep in the driver’s seat of his running vehicle. Goncalves made contact with Purtell and detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Purtell was administered field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to exhibit an insurance card. Purtell was released to a family friend pending a court appearance.
On January 13, 2014 at approximately 6:45pm, Ptl Luis Goncalves arrested 36 year old Joseph Hansen of Chatham, NJ. Hansen turned himself in on the strength of a Madison Borough Municipal Warrant in the amount of $200. Hansen posted bail and was released pending a court appearance.
On January 14, 2014, a resident of Central Avenue reported a burglary to their residence. The actor made way with several items of jewelry and other miscellaneous valuables. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Paul Kosakowski at 973-593-3007.
