Woman Fatally Injured After Being Struck by Train at Short Hills Station on Saturday Night

MILLBURN, NJ—A 45-year-old Short Hills resident, Stephanie Alexander, was killed on Saturday night when struck by a westbound Morris and Essex Line New Jersey Transit train on tracks adjacent to the Short Hills station.

According to New Jersey transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder, the engineer on the Dover-bound train, which approached Short Hills about 10 p.m., saw the woman on the tracks, sounded the train’s emergency horn and applied the emergency brake. The woman did not attempt to move from the track.

Snyder said there were no injuries to the train’s 325 passengers or the train crew.

She added the family of the victim has been notified and an investigation into the incident continues, although the above account appears to be accurate.
