Woman Shot in Leg Early Friday Morning

PATERSON, NJ - Police are investigating the shooting of a 23-year-old city woman early Friday morning.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray, the woman was shot in the leg at around 2:40 a.m. near the corner of Jefferson and North 3rd streets. 

"It appears that the victim was in the Jefferson Street area with a group of others who had just left a house party," Murray said. "While walking within the crowd, multiple shots we fired from the area of Jefferson and North 3rd Streets, and the victim was struck at that time. Detectives at this time do not believe that the victim was targeted."

The victim was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center and then released.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact detectives Rolando Polio or Edgar Taylor of  the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
