WESTFIELD, NJ — New Jersey American Water (NJAW) is promising minimal service disruptions for customers while it cleans and lines some of Westfield’s 80-year-old water mains from Monday, April 7, until the end of October. Crews will work Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
More than 18,000 feet of six-inch unlined cast iron water mains will be cleaned of the minerals and sediment that have been built up inside the mains over time, and then the inner walls of the mains will be lined with a layer of cement. While the $2.8 million project is ongoing, the water services connected to the mains being cleaned and lined will be temporarily relocated to above-ground bypass mains, NJAW said.
When the project is completed, customers can expect to experience increased water pressure, better fire protection and more reliable water service.
