World War II Veteran Honored With Proclamation

RARITAN, NJ - Raritan resident Berardino DiGiacomantonio was honored with a Congressional Proclamation June 22 in a special ceremony at the Raritan Public Library.

DiGiacomantonio, who is 100 years old, was presented with the proclamation because of heroism and courage during the World War II German occupation in Italy.

During the war, DiGiacomantonio saved the lives of two World War II servicemen, Joseph S. Freylinghuysen, Jr. and his comrade, Richard Rossbach, who had escaped a German POW camp. This all took place in the Italian region of Abruzzi.

The award was given to DiGiacomantonio by Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen.
