The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra (NJIO) is announcing an open call for outstanding young instrumentalists to audition for the 2011 NJIO Young Artists Solo Concerto Competition. Students in grades 7 – 12 in New Jersey are invited to audition on September 8 at the Judith Wharton Music Center, 60 Locust Avenue, Berkeley Heights, New Jersey 07922.
Applicants are required to play one movement of a Baroque or Classical period solo concerto by memory. A panel of judges will choose two winners to receive a monetary award of $200 and $100 and the chance to perform their solo concerto with the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra in the 2011 - 2012 concert season.

Last year’s first place competition winner was cellist Sophia Bacelar, a home-schooled student of Bridgewater, NJ. Second place winner was violinist Alex Wang, a student from Scotch Plains Middle School.
The Young Artist Concerto Competition has been made possible in part through a grant from K&S Music of Berkeley Heights, NJ. This is the fourth consecutive year that NJIO has offered the Young Artists Solo Concerto Competition.
