More than seventy student musicians from Northern and Central New Jersey will perform a concert on Monday, March 8 at 7:30PM at Montclair State University's Memorial Auditorium that features works by Marquez, Barber, Beethoven and Hovhannes. Youth Orchestra, the New Jersey Youth Symphony's [NJYS] ensemble for talented young musicians in grades 7-12, is led by Simon Lipskar. The orchestra will perform Danzon No. 2 by Marquez, Essay No. 1 by Barber, Symphony No. 1 by Hovhannes, and Beethoven's Overture to Fidelio.
Special guests on the March 8 program are members of the NJYS Percussion Ensemble "Troupe" led by Dr. Kenneth Piascik, who will perform El Muchacho Cinco by New Jersey composer Ed Argenziano.
Tickets for the March 8 concert are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and free for kids 12 and under and MSU students. Seating is general admission and tickets will be available at the venue box office beginning 30-minutes prior to the concert.
Montclair State University is located at One Normal Avenue in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. Patrons should park in the Red Hawk Deck on-campus.
NJYS, now in its 31st season, has been designated by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts as a Major Arts Organization. This award was given in July in recognition of NJYS' "long history of artistic excellence, substantial programming, broad public benefit and the esteem of its peers." Organizations with this designation are considered New Jersey's anchor arts institutions.
