SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA will be holding its Tween Tri Camp in July for children ages 11-13 years old. The focus will be on developing skills and conditioning in the three sports that make up a triathlon-swimming, biking and running. This camp is open to all levels of fitness and abilities focusing on a positive healthy lifestyle.
In addition to working on sports specific conditioning, campers will stretch and strengthen with Pilates and Bosu training and have time for recreational fun. Nutrition is also a very important component of any training protocol. Each day, campers will be involved with making a healthy snack and discuss nutrition topics such as calorie and protein needs, food choices, hydration needs in sports, pre-event meals and snacks for best performance with a Registered Dietitian.
In order to be prepared for an actual triathlon, FSPY Trainers will discuss what to pack on race day, transition area set up, and open water swimming. The camp runs for three weeks. On the last day of each week campers will have a chance to put all they learned into practice with a mini-tri.
Interested participants can sign up for one, two or all three weeks. Camp dates are July 21-24, July 28-July 31,and August 4-August 7 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. Please contact Donna Peart at (908) 889-8880 for more information.
