Q. Hello Sanjiv! Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Ohri: I’m Sanjiv Ohri and I’m running for Mayor of Glen Rock. My wife Ramona and I have lived in this amazing Borough of Glen Rock for 16 years. For 12 of those years, I have been proud to serve as an elected Trustee on the Board of Education, this year as Vice President of the Board of Education. Ramona and I have two children, Sagar and Mahima, who are both recent Glen Rock High School graduates. Our yellow lab, Daisy, completes our family.
Q. Why are you running for Mayor?
Ohri: I am honored to have the opportunity to run for Mayor of Glen Rock. Moving to Glen Rock was the best decision I ever made, and I am committed to giving back to our town that has given so much love and support to my family and me.
If elected Mayor, I look forward to “bringing the conversation back to Glen Rock” focused on local issues that matter to local taxpayers.
Q. How is your team different than other candidates?
Ohri: My team and I believe that local government should focus completely on local issues. Given our limited resources, borough government is most effective when it prioritizes and allocates our time, resources and energy to borough issues. If I am able to help provide better public services, be more responsive to residents, improve our local infrastructure while enhancing its sustainability and support our community to thrive, then I believe we will have truly served the purpose of our election.
Q. In your opinion, what is important to Glen Rocker residents?
Ohri: I believe Glen Rockers want to live in a safe and welcoming community with excellent schools, services and amenities.
Residents also want their elected officials to hear their concerns and address them in a timely, respectful and productive manner. As an active, local leader, I will actively and respectfully listen, respond and address the concerns of all Glen Rockers with full transparency.
Q. Why are you the best candidate to address these issues?
Ohri: I have channeled my passion for public service to help our community from the minute we arrived in Glen Rock. I strongly believe in and champion the values of inclusion and mutual respect, and above all, I desire to understand all opinions, point of views before finding solutions that work for the overall good. I am always willing to listen to differing opinions and help find the middle ground.
I have served on the Glen Rock Board of Education (on various committees), Religious Communities of Glen Rock and the Community Relations Advisory Board of Glen Rock and Ridgewood, among other volunteer areas. These roles have provided me a unique opportunity to learn more about what makes our town tick and leverage what I’ve learned to continue to serve our town, hopefully as Mayor of the Borough Council.
I also have a successful 25-year career working in the Technology organizations for Fortune 100 companies. Between my professional experience and my tenure on the Glen Rock Board of Education managing the 45 million dollar referendum including development of Glen Rock High School sports complex for our student athletes, I will bring extensive knowledge and expertise to the role of Mayor to address any large scale projects that our town may undertake or complex issues that may need to be addressed.
Q. What is your message to your voters?
Ohri: I have decided to run in this election because of my love for Glen Rock and what this town has given to me and my family. I have been fortunate enough to be elected in the past by the town to serve on the Board of Education for the last 12 years, where I have done my best (full-day kindergarten, infusion of technology, etc.). My time and experience in Glen Rock is an example of how welcoming Glen Rock is. Now, I want to take this to the next level by having the opportunity to serve Glen Rock in the Mayoral capacity. The Borough government needs to fully dedicate themselves in serving our town and Glen Rock needs to be central to their theme and efforts. If elected, I will immerse myself in fulfilling this role and keeping the interests of Glen Rock at the front and center of all my efforts.
Q. Anything else you’d like to add?
Ohri: Yes. As I have walked door-to-door with my running mates for Council, current Councilwoman Michelle Torpey and Eric Schlett, we have thoroughly enjoy meeting residents and discussing their views on Glen Rock. If we missed you when we knocked or haven’t reached your block yet, and you’d like to talk, please email OhriTorpeySchlett@gmail.com and let me know; we’ll set up a convenient time to get together. We want to meet and hear from everyone as we look to strengthen to make “GlenRock4All”.
