I am Bob Weber and I am running for re-election to the Borough Council. I am a retired Morris County Assistant Prosecutor turned public school teacher, as well as a long-serving Boy Scout leader in the Chathams. I am a tireless and dedicated public servant who works to improve the Borough and its operations. I fight for transparent and responsive government and seek to pursue practical solutions to the Borough’s challenges. In a second term, I will continue to guide the Borough government in its pursuit of fiscal responsibility and fight to provide essential municipal services in the most cost-effective manner. Furthermore, I will use the legal skills I developed over 26 years of prosecuting criminal cases to analyze the proposed redevelopment projects and continue to ask the tough questions of the “experts”.
In the event you do not regularly follow Borough government, some of my first-term accomplishments include:
Creation of a handicap bus turnaround on Tallmadge Ave and installation of an additional handicap parking space at Borough Hall
Saving a portion of the Vine Street paper street for continued public access
Hiring of a Class III Special Police Officer to patrol the Borough’s schools
Updating of the Borough’s Health Code
Creating an off-leash dog area at Shepard Kollock Park
Lobbied the Police Department to establish the Borough’s National Night Out Program
Leading the fight to stop the NJ Legislature from legalizing marijuana
I am asking the voters for a second term on the Borough Council in order to continue my work on important issues facing the Borough. The two most important issues we face are:
Redevelopment (Commercial & Residential): If re-elected I will continue to scrutinize the pending redevelopment projects to make sure they are the right fit for the residents of the Borough. In doing so, I will make sure the Borough government takes into account the projects’ impact on our quality of life, the character of our town and our finances. Going forward, I believe it is imperative that we pursue a balance between both commercial and residential redevelopment.
Traffic Congestion: Even before any redevelopment, we already have a traffic congestion problem in the Borough. With redevelopment, it could get even worse. If re-elected, I will continue to work with the Borough government to pursue traffic mitigation solutions not only for our current traffic issues but also for those associated with the redevelopment projects. Since a lot of the vehicles traveling on Main Street and Watchung Ave are considered “pass-through traffic”, I believe we need to work with neighboring municipalities as well as our County and State partners to develop regional solutions to the area’s traffic congestion. I will also vigorously push to have the redevelopers pay for infrastructure and other improvements to mitigate any additional traffic generated by their developments.
On a less serious note, but still important, I want to pursue bringing back the annual Christmas Tree Bonfire. As Coronavirus restrictions are loosened, lifting the community’s spirits will be of paramount importance. The annual bonfire is a spectacular way to celebrate being part of a great community.
My wife Jill and I have been Summit Ave residents for 27 years. We have three adult sons and a beagle named Cooper.
I hope I can count on your support. VOTE TO RE-ELECT BOB WEBER!!! Sincerely,
