Hi! My name is Susan Hannon and I am running as a write-in candidate for Sparta Town Council.  I have been fortunate to live in Sparta for over 18 years.  My husband, Kevin and I have raised our sons here.  One is a freshman in college and the other is a junior at Sparta High School.  During the boys’ school years I volunteered at the schools, cub scouts, OSCAR, Lake Mohawk’s Beach 4, and the Barnyard Sanctuary.  Previous to living in Sparta, I was a marketing professional within the financial services industry in New York City.  Presently, I am a board member and Treasurer of the Hemlock Hills Homeowners Corporation.

After the Sandy Hook mass shooting I joined the gun violence prevention movement. For the last four years I have been President of the Sussex County Chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and on the board of the NJ Council. Over the last four years I have lobbied our Congressmen and Senators in Washington D.C.  I have testified about gun violence bills before our Assembly and Senate in Trenton.  I have organized meetings, protests and events for the Sussex County Chapter.  I believe that we have a serious problem with gun violence in our nation.

I love the Sparta community and I am so proud to live here. It truly is a special place to live. I believe I would be a great addition to the Town Council.  I would like to see better interaction, transparency and communication between the council and the community.  I oppose the logging of Sparta Mountain.  I would support a committee to establish a Dog Park in Sparta.  I believe Sparta should have a Community Center where events for seniors, teens and all members of the community can be held.

I will work hard for the people of Sparta.  Don’t forget to write in my name, Susan Hannon on your ballot on November 6th.  Thank you for your support.
