HOLMDEL: On Friday, June 15th, in the gymnasium at Holmdel's Indian Hill School they gathered; Daisies, Brownies, Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, Ambassadors and Adult Girl Scouts, their families, volunteers and troop leaders, all gathered together to wrap up another successful year of 'building girls of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place!' Their Promise: "To serve God and my country, to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law." All of this and more was recited while the girls all held up their three fingers.

According to the national website for Girl Scouts of America: "The Girls Scouts of the USA use the three-fingered sign at shoulder height, representing the girl's own spiritual beliefs, other people, and the Girl Scout Law. The organization Girl Scouts of the USA is all about encouraging girls to be leaders and according to the national organization, Girls Scouts is: "A safe place where girls can explore, discover and just be themselves. From adventuring outdoors or experimenting with science to saving a park, or developing new skills, Girl Scouting prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership."

Friday's event opened with a Flag Ceremony, followed by a Candle Ceremony. Next there were welcome comments and then each troop was announced to come up to the stage where every individual Girl Scout received a certificate of advancement to the next scout level and in doing so, walked over the wooden bridge set up on the stage for all to see. 1st Grade Daisies bridged to Brownies, 3rd grade Brownies bridged to Juniors, 5th grade Juniors to Cadettes, 8th grade Cadettes bridged to Seniors, 10th grade Seniors bridged to Ambassadors and 12th grade Ambassadors bridged to Adult Girl Scouts. Many troop leaders highlighted the special events that took place over the last year and all of the efforts put in by so many girls leading the way to making the world a better place!   Refreshments were served and an ice cream truck waited outside to treat the Scouts as the event concluded.
