There are plenty of myths about the time of day that a burglar will break-in. These are some common ones.
While TV usually shows people breaking into homes in the cover of night, the thieves run the risk of waking you up while they ransack your home. Burglars are less likely to be caught if they show up while the house is empty. Most home invasions happen between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when most people are at work and school.

Burglars do not want to be caught, which is why they tend to break in while everyone is gone for the day. They will often spend time staking out the area to get a feel for your routines and home security, to make sure they know what windows are open for them during the day.
A careful criminal may find the social media profiles for people in your home and look for posts about upcoming or current vacations, so they can break in while you are out of town.

Keep The Curtains Open
If you have big windows in the front of your house, keeping the curtains open will keep burglars out, because they risk being seen. The problem with this myth is that it is basically advertising to them what you have and showing them that you are not home. If they peek into your living room and it looks appealing enough, they might risk being spotted to nab it while you are gone.
Beware Of Dog Signs
A sign alone is not going to be enough to keep a burglar from breaking in. You actually have to have a dog for the sign to do anything, and even then, many dogs are more likely to try to cuddle with a burglar than attack them. Also, if they plan this break-in in advance, they might bring some treats with them to sedate your dog when they arrive.

The three easiest ways to keep burglars at bay are light, sound, and technology.
Keep your lights on a timer schedule and rotate it frequently. This will have your lights turn off and on throughout the day and night, making it hard for burglars to guess if you are home.
Motion triggered lights outside of your home is also a good way to scare off burglars. Even if you are not home, the front yard lighting up can help your neighbors see anyone.
The easiest way to use sound to scare them off is by simply leaving the TV or radio on, so they still hear noises inside the house.

Security cameras and home security systems are the two oldest and most common pieces of technology that will keep a home safe, but there is much more available now.
Smart doorbells are a great way to prevent package thefts, since those often record activity on your porch.
You can also get smart locks, garage door openers, and even lights. These can be designed to send you notifications when they are opened, so you will know right away if your garage randomly opens in the middle of the day when no one is home and you can alert the authorities.
