As we are all aware, in the midst of this major health crisis physically visiting the library is just not possible. While the buildings are closed you can rest assured that library staff continues to work to maintain the essential services that are the heart of our mission: to provide educational, recreational and cultural resources and important information to the community we serve. Even though the doors are closed, cardholders can still access various digital resources and materials like e-books and magazines, journals and newspapers, music, TV and movies, tutorials and research materials. All this is available for users 24/7/365 and Reference Librarians are available to assist navigation and access to all of this and more. Library cards are and can still be issued or updated during this time and communication is open with library staff through voicemail, via email at unionpl@uplnj.org and through social media platforms Facebook and Instagram.

Access resources like TumbleBooks, and our newest database, Tutor.com where learners can get one-on-one help from qualified tutors throughout the day; downloadable e-books and e-audio are available through the apps Libby/Overdrive and RBdigital and we have video streaming for users to watch TV and movies through hoopla. Cardholders can learn a new language through Mango Languages and brush up on their computers skills through Learning Express. These resources and others can be found on the library website at www.uplnj.org and then clicking on 24/7 Digital Library.

We know that the Library building is as important a resource as those housed within. Library closures, as do other closures, hurt. Aside from books, many people come to our buildings because they want or need something else important. It may be that they do not have internet at home and need computer access, or maybe that they currently have no place to call home, or it may be because the social connections made with staff and with one another inside libraries create a sense of belonging which reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. We understand that this resource and connection is vital to the well-being of individuals and a vibrant community. This sacrifice we are all called to make in this unusual time is temporary. Union Public Library is here for you. We look forward to the time we can welcome everyone back into the building. Until then stay safe and stay healthy!
