It’s hard to believe that it's the first day of Spring.  The quality family time that has been thrust upon us overnight is wonderful, but not something we planned for. While you have always been your child's primary teacher, your role this week has changed significantly without any time to plan.  You are now also supporting them through their virtual schooling.  So take a little time tomorrow to relax, unwind, and learn in nature as a family. Send us a picture while you’re out there.  A walk around the block or in a local park can reset everyone’s frame of mind. One Smiley Monkey states her top three family hiking benefits on her blog:

  • Improved cardio-vascular health for everyone: Hiking is a fantastic way to get some exercise without being stuck at the gym. You can hike at your own level and plan a location and difficulty level that suits everyone. Hiking is safe and fun for the boys and it helps burn energy in a healthy way. You will also be burning a ton of calories without even thinking about it!
  • Getting your Daily Dose of Vitamin D: Vitamin D is very important for all of us to keep our muscles and bones strong. The best source of vitamin D is the sun and just 10 minutes of sunshine will help you maintain a healthy level of vitamin D. A mix of fresh air and sun is the best for our family.
  • Makes you Happy: This is a great one. Have you ever felt overwhelmed or stressed and closed your eyes to think about a peaceful gorgeous location? Well, hiking can make you happier, being outdoors and experiencing the beautiful views can help elevate your mood. A great way to get rid of stress and spend quality family time.

If you are able to collect some rocks. Paint some positive messages on them and leave them along a trail, your sidewalk, or where others walk.  It’ll put a smile on someone’s face and couldn’t we all use an unexpected positive message?   Here is a little tool you might find inspiring.  https://www.thekindnessrocksproject.com/ is a movement happening all over the world and I just started following a group of students on Instagram doing this as well @morristown.rocks .  Nature+ Family+Kindness= A very special time in our lives.
