Dear Editor,

My name is Anna Marie Sasso. I am a candidate for Council at Large. I would like to take this opportunity to tell our Hawthorne Community, those residents who do not know me, who I am, what I stand for and why it is that I ask for your Row A vote for a Council seat in Hawthorne.

I was raised and educated in Hawthorne. My roots in this community are deeply seeded and strong. I launched and built a successful business here, raised my two sons as a widowed single mother, and have always been and will be a community minded and active person. Dedication and helping is a way of life for me and the ability to share that with you will be an honor.

When the children in town needed a playground, somewhere they could safely play, I organized an annual fundraiser supported by celebrity friends from ESPN that not only helped us complete the playground build, but now funds the Mark A. Sasso Scholarship Foundation that has awarded more than $35,000 to deserving Hawthorne students.

In 2015, when the mayor appointed me to serve on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, I gladly accepted the honor. I am also a member of the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, Hawthorne Rotary Club, the Hawthorne Regular Republican Organization, and I won election to the Hawthorne Republican County Committee as a Ward 3 Representative.  Each of these organizations has a direct impact on the quality of life in our community and the only way to make a difference is to get involved.  This is why these positions are important to me. They allow me to have the ability to help you the members of our community.

These are some of the reasons that I wish to contribute further to our town. I have confidence in my ability to bring in something new, progress that makes sense, to our town. I have business acumen and I am a consensus builder. I know these qualities will make me an asset to our Council and our beautiful hometown of Hawthorne. Maintaining Hawthorne's current level of services, improving our aging infrastructure, bringing new businesses into town and preserving green space for our future, all while keeping annual tax increases below 2% is a big challenge. This requires the experience in business and real estate market trends for over 20 years in our town; which I possess. As a longtime sponsor of everything from local youth athletic programs and Project Graduation to hot chocolate for the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony, I know how to spend my money wisely to provide the most benefit for our residents. You can be sure that I will handle your tax dollars just as responsibly.

This opportunity comes at a time in my life where I can give more to my town. With my children moving on in their educational careers and owning my own business, I have the flexibility to be available to address whatever is needed of me.  I pride myself in my ability to build relationships. Importantly, I am a problem solver, not maker.

I am running because I believe that I am the most qualified person for this position. I hope that you will too.

Please make sure you get out on June 8, 2021, and vote Team Lane in the Primary. Team Lane is Dominic Mele, Anna Marie Sasso, and Bruce Bennett, the new with the experienced. The perfect combination for Hawthorne’s future. We will make you proud. I thank you for your support.

Respectfully yours,

Anna Marie Sasso
