I was a Nutley resident for almost 40 yrs. Due to a fire we sustained in Jan. 2015, we had no choice but to move to Elmwood Park in Bergen County. My family and I cannot thank the fire dept. the Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad and others than came to our aid at 3:00 a.m. on that snowy night.
It was on Brown St. in the middle of a blizzard. The firemen, first aid and others took all residents of the 3-family house into their care. Gave us blankets and took us to the "warming" center on Chestnut street, even called in a nurse at 4:00 a.m.
NVERS also came to my aid when I slipped and broke my ankle; when I had a episode of severe vertigo due to diabetes.
I can never repay them for what they have done for me and my family. Now I am reading about dismantling the department! SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. They were the most caring people who came and helped during our needs. How can you NOT take care of these people who put their heart and soul on the line for others?
Let's not even talk about their work during this COVID-19 problem. Yes, I don't reside in Nutley anymore, but I keep up-to-date on the goings-on in the town, which I will always consider home. From what I am hearing, many residents are not happy with your decision.
You have such a hardworking, professional department, why would you mess with something not broken? You will truly regret any decisions you make about dissolving the NVERS and the service they have provided over the years.
Think twice before making such a disastrous decision.
