On November 18, 2012, the Herald published an editorial piece addressing a petition effort underway, in Vernon, to change the utility company from JCP&L to Sussex Rural Electric. The writer made comparisons to two previous petition efforts done in Vernon; the petition to change the form of government and the more recent petition to put the salary raises on the November ballot. Those two successful petitions resulted in ballot questions and followed a strict set of guidelines according to N.J. State Statutes. Those two petitions were sponsored by Committees of Petitioners, all of whom were Vernon Taxpayer’s Association members.
The Vernon Taxpayer’s Association disagrees with any insinuations that the petition now being circulated for the utility company change is, in any way, connected to the VTA. We have no collective opinion about the issue and we are not involved in its petition process. The current petition is merely a public opinion poll and is not a legal document.
The Vernon Taxpayer’s Association is a group of taxpayers who will continue to promote good government and address issues that relate to our taxes.
