On June 5th, Congressman Josh Gottheimer took part in the Oradell LGBTQ+ Pride Flag Raising in front of Borough Hall. This year marked the second time the borough had held this ceremony to properly honor Pride month. The Pride Flag is a vital symbol that hate and intolerance have no place in our communities; therefore, this ceremony also highlighted the values we should all be honored to celebrate.
Congressman Gottheimer spoke at this service to honor the LGBTQ+ Movement. In his speech, he emphasized the strides we have taken to reach this point, but also noted that our work is far from over. On June 15, in a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court justices found that “an employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender violates Title VII.” Therefore, Congressman Gottheimer represents not only my hometown of Oradell, but also the entirety of the Fifth District because Congressman Josh Gottheimer’s Jersey Values are similar to the overall goal of the Supreme Court of the United States. In the rapidly changing political and social environment that is now shifting to support LGBTQ+ rights, I am confident that Congressman Gottheimer will continue to fight for strides in the LGBTQ+ Community, as he has since day one against Scott Garrett, making rulings such as the most current decision under the Civil Rights Act possible.
This is essential to consider when voting in the upcoming Primary, and it is the reason that I support Congressman Gottheimer’s re-election.
