Madison School Community,
Last week, our school community learned that Greg Robertson, Principal of Madison High School, has announced his retirement after fifteen years of service. For those of you who know Mr. Robertson, it should come as no surprise that I esteem him as one of the most honorable and dedicated educators with whom I have had the pleasure of working. He includes the pupils’ voices in decision making through his Student Principal Advisory Committee, stands at the sidelines and in the audience of countless student events, and greets and sends off our students every day as they arrive and depart from school. Our programs have grown to their strongest through Mr. Robertson’s collaborative spirit, and our faculty, staff and students are cared for and kept safe under his watchful eye. No doubt, Mr. Robertson’s shoes will be very hard to fill.
Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be engaging in a thorough search for the most qualified replacement for Mr. Robertson as the next Principal of Madison High School. I would like to invite you to attend a public work session in which we will engage community members in the process of establishing an MHS Principal Profile to guide our search efforts. This profile will include the personal qualities, professional abilities, dispositions, and career experiences that are collectively desired in the ideal principal candidate. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 8:00pm in the MHS Media Center. If you would like to attend, please RSVP by 10am on June 4, 2019 via this link.
In addition to community members, I will be holding sessions with MHS student representatives, the MHS faculty members, and community leaders to ensure that our candidate profile is inclusive of multiple perspectives. Students that do not currently serve in an MHS representative capacity (MHS student council, MHS S&P Committee, Student/Board Liaisons, etc.) are welcome to attend the community session.
Mr. Robertson will complete his service to Madison on Friday, August 30, 2019, and we anticipate announcing his successor in July 2019. In the meantime, for those who know Mr. Robertson, I encourage you to share a kind word and wish him a restful and well-deserved Dodger retirement.
Mark Schwarz, Superintendent of Madison Schools
