Why I’m Voting for Column B
There has been much talk about the election this year. Democrats are asking who can defeat Donald Trump. Here in Piscataway I’m so glad that Mayor Wahler and the Council members Gabrielle Cahill, Kapil Shah and Chanelle Scott-McCullum are on Column B right along with Joe Biden, Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Frank Pallone. This is an outstanding team that works well together.
Over the years that Brian Wahler has been Mayor, I have seen many improvements to the town and obstacles overcome. First, the Mayor and Council deserve a big shout out for getting the Community Center to the finish line. When the idea first began to be implemented, the Mayor and Council had enough foresight to try to avoid using tax dollars to build the Community Center. So they started the “buy a Brick” program – which I’m happy to see will become a beautiful wall inside the entrance. But almost from the outset, many obstacles hit the town delaying the funding, including Hurricane Sandy and a major recession. But through it all, under Mayor Wahler’s leadership Piscataway withstood the crisis.
Mayor Wahler’s vision of economic development has proven to be a valuable asset for the town. Now, almost paradoxically, because of revenue from the new businesses coming to town, Piscataway Township will in all likelihood get through the recession we may be facing due to COVID 19.
In the last few years, slowly but surely roads are being improved. Sidewalks are being put in to encourage Piscataway to be walkable town. Bike Paths are being added for those who love bike riding. In addition, all the parks have been renovated through the Community Block Grant that Mayor Wahler fought for long and hard with Congressman Pallone and other Mayors around the country.
There is a host of free things in Piscataway as well. We thoroughly enjoy the free summer concerts in the parks. Where most towns charge for sports, our children have played free Pop Warner and Basketball through the Piscataway Recreation Department. Through the Piscataway Arts and Cultural Department, there are free displays of local artists. And let’s not forget our senior citizens. Piscataway Senior Center was recognized nationally by AARP. The Piscataway PCTV station has won numerous awards with the Mayor’s informative “Eye on Piscataway” TV show. The Piscataway Library also offers free programs. The Piscataway Police Department is held in high regard. And finally Piscataway has been economically sound for years. They have an AA bond rating and have lowered the tax rate three years in a row.
These are just some reasons that I’m voting for Column B for Mayor Wahler and Councilpersons Cahill, Shah and Scott-McCullum.
