SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Board of Education member and music educator Karen Scott has resigned her seat on the board, for personal reasons. The board is seeking applications for candidates interested in filling the vacated seat.  The term ends on December 31, 2018. 

The advertisement for the job, posted as a classified on this page on February 7, said anyone interested in the position should submit a letter of intent and a resume to the board office at 18 Mohawk Avenue by Friday, February 16.  Applicants must be Sparta residents. 

On February 13,  Sparta Business Administrator and Board Secretary Pamela Hinman said two people have submitted resumes and they received a phone call from someone else who was interested by had not yet applied.

Hinman said no interviews had yet taken place.  She said the board members will interview the applicants in Executive Session before the next board of education meeting.  After discussion the board members will then approve the new board member in the public session, according to Hinman

The next Sparta Board of Education meeting is Monday, February 26 at 7:30 in the auditorium at Mohawk Avenue School.
