Warren Community Rallies to Support Spin & Win for Quaid Mobus

November 23, 2013 at 7:53 AM

WARREN, NJ - It seemed like the entire town was out last night to help support Quaid Mobus at the Washington Valley Fire Company's Spin & Win. All proceeds from this year's “Spin & Win” will be donated  to the Quaid Mobus Fund.
“Spin & Win” is an annual event where attendees play boardwalk-style wheels to win Thanksgiving-themed items, including turkeys, hams, baskets of baked goods or vegetables and more. This year there were also Giants and Devils tickets as well as gift cards to local restaurants.
The bake sale was a huge success. The children in attendance were especially excited to see trunks full of home baked goodies arrive and many used their own money to purchase the treats to do their part to help the cause.
Chief of Police Russ Leffert took a turn at MCing and quieted  the boisterous crowd for a few moments to allow Quaid's parents, George and Cindy, to say a few words. They both thanked everyone and remarked on what an amazing community we are all so fortunate to live in.  The community support helps to give them strength, they said.

The total tally from the Spin & Win wasn't in at the time of this writing, but at the end of the night, the total from just the Pray for Quaid bracelets was $2900.
The community has rallied since the accident to show support in many ways. The next event is,  Support and Aid for Quaid, a planned evening of "fun and celebration" is a fundraiser for continued support.
Dinner, cocktails and dancing, with a special show featuring the hair artistry of Sofi, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the Primavera Regency in Long Hill Township.
Tickets are $80 per person and can be purchased by contacting Roslyn Nina-Cianfano at or Rebecca Mugavero at
Tickets may also be purchased at Sofi's Locations at 34 North Ave. West in Cranford or at 73 Union Place in Summit.
Mobus was injured in Pennsylvania in an accident while 4-wheeling on the day before his sister's wedding. He suffered a severe spinal cord injury, the extent of which will be determined as his body begins to heal, according to the update on the announcement of the Nov. 29 event.
"He’s in stable condition, but will have a long road of recovery ahead," the invitation said.
The Mobus family has deep roots in the community going back several decades and a legacy of kindness and service to the town, with many family members working at local establishments.
Contributions to Support Quaid Mobus will assist the 22-year-old and the Mobus Family with general hospital bills, a specialized wheelchair, a vehicle capable of transporting his wheelchair, modifications made to the family house in Warren and other related expenses.
"It's amazing how powerful prayer is. Quaid is doing great!" his sister Cailyn Crandell posted as a facebook update .  "I was able to spend almost 18 hours with him in the past two days and LOVED every minute of it. When I would come home for a day or two Quaid would come out with me and our friends, now we all just go to him and talk about everything we have done and will do again.
"His strength is unmeasurable and his spirit is uncommon," she added.
Those who cannot attend the event but would like to make a contribution can mail a check to The Michael Bruce Fund, c/o Quaid Mobus, PO Box 858, Martinsville, NJ 08836.
