YORKTOWN, N.Y. - My Brother Vinny, a Yorktown-based non-profit, has assisted its 300th veteran.

The organization, founded by Paula Miritello, reached the milestone on May 30—Memorial Day. Miritello supported Veteran No. 300, a Navy veteran ('76-'80), by donating a bathroom/kitchen basket and a queen mattress. The basket was contributed by Janet Hecken of Cortlandt Manor and the mattress by Holiday Inn Express of Hauppauge.

"I found out [last week] that our veteran needed a new mattress," Miritello said. "We decided to make Memorial Day a memorable milestone."

Miritello was joined Memorial Day by Veteran No. 1, who happens to be the neighbor of Veteran No. 300. My Brother Vinny supported its first veteran in June 2013.

Veteran No. 300 thanked Miritello for her work, writing: "I want to give a huge thank you for coming to my aid. It was a total surprise, as you know. I am eternally grateful for what you have done for me."
