LIVINGSTON, NJ — Local young businesswomen recently learned how to expand their network through various social media platforms and how to find the right connections to help grow their careers at Livingston-based accounting firm Sobel & Co., LLC’s quarterly Young Professional Women’s Roundtable.
Maria Semple, author of “Magnify Your Business,” led a discussion about the impact of social media and how a businesswoman can ensure that she is having an authentic connection with her audience while also building brand awareness.
“Maria opened up our eyes on how we can be using social media to market ourselves and the companies we either own or work for,” said Jamie Herman, supervisor at Sobel & Co., LLC, who co-organizes the roundtable events with Christina Casaburi. “Many of us use social media every day in our personal lives, and don’t even think about all of the benefits it could bring to our work lives including business development and career growth.”
Semple specifically focused on LinkedIn, which Herman said was extremely effective. According to Semple, LinkedIn is one of the best ways that a business professional can establish his or her brand as well as develop new opportunities. She said this also works for individuals hoping to become successful business professionals.
“She gave great points on how to update our LinkedIn pages, including what information to include and how it should be formatted,” said Herman. “She also expressed the importance of utilizing other social media platforms in addition to LinkedIn, like Facebook and Twitter, to expand our reach to different target markets. After Maria’s presentation, I know I am going to make sure my LinkedIn page is updated using her helpful tips.”
Over a light breakfast and coffee, Semple encouraged the young women to take the necessary steps to make themselves shine on social media.
