BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Bridgewater man was arrested for possession of marijuana Aug. 26 after being found with the drug in Nap Torpey Park, according to a report from Bridgewater Township Police.

Darnell L. Thigpen, 23, was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of a controlled dangerous substance, drug paraphernalia and failure to turn a controlled dangerous substance over to a law enforcement officer. He was also issued a motor vehicle summons for having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

Thigpen was stopped at the park at 1:57 p.m. When he was stopped, the report said, officers detected the smell of raw marijuana from inside the vehicle.

Officers performed a probable cause search, the report said, and found marijuana inside the vehicle.

Thigpen was processed and released pending a municipal court date.

Police made other arrests for DWI and shoplifting.

  • Michael Ridente, 48, of Warren, was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test, failure to maintain a lane and careless driving after he was pulled over for motor vehicle violations on Route 22 West Aug. 28 at 1:06 a.m. Ridente was processed and released pending a municipal court date.
  • Michael J. Mosher, 21, of Branchburg, was arrested for shoplifting Aug. 25 at 6:51 p.m. after he was found with $279.48 worth of clothing from Macy's at the Bridgewater Commons Mall. He was processed and released pending a court date.
  • William J. Flower, 39, of Somerset, was arrested for shoplifting after he was found with $75 worth of merchandise from GameStop at the Bridgewater Commons Mall Aug. 15 at 3:05 p.m. He was processed and released pending a court appearance.
