On August 27, detectives observed Hammill walking on Brookdale Avenue in Newark where she was stopped. She was found to have several warrants for her arrest out of Maplewood and Union. Hammill was placed under arrest and transported to South Orange PD. She confessed to the shoplifting and was charged accordingly. Hammill was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic syringes. She was issued new court dates in Maplewood and Union and released on a summons from South Orange.
Arrest, Burglary to Garage
On August 25, a Fairview Avenue resident reported someone entered into their garage and stole several bicycles. They again reported items missing the next night, so detectives from South Orange PD mounted a camera inside the victim’s garage and on August 27 our victim reported someone entered his garage once again and stole his lawn mower. Video was retrieved from the camera and detectives recognized the individual entering the garage and stealing the lawn mower as Anthony Ford, a 61-year-old Newark resident; detectives are familiar with Ford from prior arrests. A warrant was approved for Burglary and Theft and later that night Ford returned to town and was stopped in the area of South Orange Avenue and Ward Place by South Orange Officers. Ford was placed under arrest and transported to South Orange PD where he also confessed to the prior thefts. Ford was also wanted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on a prior charge. Ford was transported to the Essex County Jail.
