John Rovetto initiated a motor vehicle stop on 17th Street at Columbia Street and arrested a passenger, Jose Corvera-Ascencio, age 18 of Paterson, after marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle. He was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance & possession of drug paraphernalia.

12/31/2019 1:54 am Narcotics: P.O. John Rovetto initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at Blue Hill Avenue and arrested the operator, Juan Bangcaya, age 33 of Brooklyn, NY, and the passenger, Patrick Bangcaya, age 33 of Belleville, after marijuana & prescription pills were discovered inside the vehicle. Both were released after being charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance & possession of drug paraphernalia.

01/02/2020 8:58 am Wanted Person: P.O. Tiller Uriarte initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 4 at Paramus Road and arrested a passenger, Quamir Johnson, age 22 of Paterson, after an arrest warrant was located from the Pennsylvania State Police. He was sent to Bergen County Jail to await extradition.

01/03/2020 6:41 pm Shoplifting: P.O. Michael Van Ness & P.O. Robert Iozzia responded to ShopRite, 17-17 River Road, and arrested Mercedes Martillo-Zapata, age 35 of Hawthorne, after she was detained by store loss prevention with unpaid items in a backpack totaling $80.46. She was released after being charged with shoplifting.

01/03/2020 7:50 pm Narcotics: Det. Anthony Lugo & Det. Brian Rypkema approached two suspicious people standing on the corner of Broadway at 27th Street and arrested Jordan Stevens, age 33 of Brick, after finding hypodermic needles hidden in his clothing and locating arrest warrants out of Bergen County (no bail), Paramus ($1000), Woodbridge ($750), Fort Lee ($500) & Montvale ($500). Heroin was later found hidden in his clothes, as well. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance & possession of hypodermic needles, then sent to Bergen County Jail.

01/04/2020 10:37 am Wanted Person: P.O. Ian Manelis & P.O. Miguel Cruz responded to CVS Pharmacy, 29-00 Broadway, on a report of a suspicious male inside the store and arrested Ibrahim Hanif, age 38 of Paterson, after an arrest warrant was located out of Paterson for $1000. He was handed over to Paterson Police.

01/04/2020 8:49 pm Narcotics: P.O. Juan Rodriguez responded to Broadway at 17th Street on a report of a dispute and initiated a motor vehicle stop on 17th Street as a vehicle involved was leaving the area. Jean Pagan-Encarnacion, age 18 of Hackensack, a 16-year-old male from Fair Lawn and a 16-year-old male from Elmwood Park were arrested after marijuana, vape cartridges containing THC oil, THC gummies and alcoholic beverages were discovered inside the vehicle. A total of $4503 in cash was also found and confiscated for seizure. 

01/08/20 Pagan-Encarnacion was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), distribution of CDS, distribution of CDS within 1000 feet of a school, employing juveniles in drug distribution and possession of drug paraphernalia. The juveniles were released to parents and will be charged on juvenile petitions to family court.

01/05/2020 9:40 pm Driving While Intoxicated: P.O. Justin DiGuglielmo initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at Summit Avenue and arrested the operator, Edwin Barahona, age 29 of Midland Park, after he exited the vehicle against the officer׳s orders and took a fighting stance against officers before he was placed under arrest after a short struggle. He was released to a family member after being charged with resisting arrest, speeding, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a single lane, obstructed windshield, unclear license plates, unlicensed driver, failure to exhibit a license, registration card and insurance card, possession of opened alcoholic beverage inside a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to breath samples. 

Chief Glen Cauwels stated all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
