04/30/2019 3:57 pm Driving While Intoxicated: P.O. Tiller Uriarte, P.O. Luis Vasquez, P.O. Anthony Burgos and Sgt. Sean Macys responded to Route 208 North at Promenade Boulevard for a reported motor vehicle crash and arrested one of the operators, Marek Konopko, age 35 of Hamburg, after he failed a roadside sobriety test. He was release to a responsible adult after being charged with reckless driving, following too closely and driving while intoxicated.

05/13/2019 1:19 am Driving While Intoxicated: P.O. Geovanny Buitron initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at Cyril Avenue and arrested the operator, Eddie Acosta, age 44 of Elmwood Park, after he failed a roadside sobriety test. Cocaine and a container of pepper spray were discovered during a search. He was released to a responsible adult after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of a weapon, careless driving, following too closely and driving while intoxicated.

05/18/2019 9:30 pm Narcotics: Det. Paul Donohue and Det. Anthony Lugo initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway East at Route 208 South and arrested the operator, Jaime Castro, age 27 of Union City, after marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle. He was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of drug paraphernalia, maintenance of vehicle lamps, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating unlicensed and operating a motor vehicle with CDS in possession.

05/20/2019 10:22 am Shoplifting: P.O. Brad Pindyck and P.O. Chris Siano responded to the area of CVS, 18-35 River Road, after a male shoplifter fled the store and arrested Henry Bermudez of Paterson. He was located on 1st Avenue in Paterson with $43.96 in unpaid items and evidence of drug use. Bermudez was released after being charged with shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic needles and hindering his own apprehension.

05/20/2019 Theft: On 05-08-19, Fair Lawn Police responded to the Verizon Store, 2130 Promenade Boulevard, on a report of a theft of cell phones from the business totaling $9,330. Det. Mark Wyka took over the investigation and arrested Vianca Ortiz-Landron, age 22 of Paterson, after she was observed, as an employee of the business, taking phones from the safe and leaving with the phones in a shopping bag. She was released after being charged with theft of movable property.

05/22/2019 6:05 pm Shoplifting: P.O. Michael Van Ness, P.O. Luis Vasquez and P.O. Robert Iozzia responded to CVS, 18-35 River Road, on a report of a shoplifting in progress and arrested George Jordan, age 40 of Far Rockaway, NY, after he was stopped with a foil-lined bag containing $3,117.55 in unpaid items inside. Jordan, who had a $300 arrest warrant out of Rochelle Park, was charged with shoplifting and possession of a shoplifting countermeasure device, then was released after bail was posted.

05/25/2019 6:47 pm Shoplifting: P.O. Juan Rodriguez approached a suspicious person next to Walgreens, 17-77 River Road, and arrested Joseph Peterson Jr, age 51 of Paterson, after finding unpaid items, totaling $74.97, in his clothing. Peterson, who had an arrest warrant for $750 out of Fair Lawn, was charged with shoplifting, then was sent to Bergen County Jail.

Chief Glen Cauwels stated all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
