BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Jersey City man was arrested July 20 for marijuana possession after being stopped for a motor vehicle violation at the Bridgewater Commons Mall, according to a report from Bridgewater Township Police.

Kevon Christian Burnett-Deroche, 26, was arrested at 7:29 p.m. for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police smelled marijuana from inside his vehicle after he was stopped.

Burnett-Deroche was also served with motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended and having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

He was processed and released pending a court date.

Police made other arrests for shoplifting and more in July and the beginning of August.

  • Christopher Ju, 33, of East Brunswick, was arrested July 28 at 5:54 a.m. for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest following a motor vehicle stop on Foothill Road. He was also issued summonses for refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving and obstructing safe passage. He was processed and released pending a court appearance.
  • Joseph Helgesen, 32, of South Plainfield, was arrested July 28 at 12:37 a.m. for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Route 22 East. He was also issued summonses for refusal to submit to a breath test, failure to maintain a lane, reckless driving and failure to exhibit registration and insurance. He was processed and released pending a court appearance.
  • A Mayflower Court resident reported Aug. 2 that there was a buglary to her unlocked vehicle.
  • Fall Mountain and Primrose Lane residents reported Aug. 1 that there were burglaries to their unlocked vehicles.
  • A Primrose Lane resident reported Aug. 1 that her motor vehicle was stolen from in front of her house. The vehicle was unlocked with the key fob inside the car.
  • Pamela M. Gelfand, 37, of Green Brook, was arrested July 30 at 6:35 p.m. for shoplifting merchandise from Target, in the Bridgewater Promenade. She was allegedly found with $109 worth of items. She was processed and released pending acourt appearance.
  • Alyssa N. Kline, 19, of Branchburg, and Chelsey N. Borke, 18, of Somverille, were charged with shoplifting after they found were found with merchandise from Target, in the Bridgewater Promenade. Kline was allegedly found with $91 worth of clothing and Borke was found with $117 worth of clothing. They were processed and released pending a court appearance.
  • Deysi Lopez-Sarmiento, 29, of Bound Brook, was charged with shoplifting after being found with $307 worth of merchandise from Target, in the Bridgewater Promenade. She was processed and released pending a court appearance.
  • Andre D. Thomas, 23, of Plainfield, was arrested July 25 at 4:37 p.m. for shoplifting after being found with $249 worth of baby formula from Target, at the Bridgewater Promenade. He was processed and released pending a court appearance.
  • Karla M. Reiss, 66, of Flemington, was arrested Aug. 2 at 3:31 p.m. for shoplifting after she was found with $127 worth of food from Wegmans, in Bridgewater Towne Centre. She was processed and released pending a court appearance.
